Psalm 121:5

God never fails to watch over us in our most recent journey in the West.
While waiting for a bus that took ages to come, our first morning and second day in LA, we waited under the rain with our umbrellas. He sent someone to alert us that the particular bus we have been waiting for would not be turning up till late afternoon!

In another occasion, while waiting for another bus, not realising we were waiting in the wrong direction, He sent someone else whom we could ask for confirmation (bus stops at LA is usually quite empty) only to realise we were indeed waiting at the wrong side of the road.

In San Francisco, though the bus stop was crowded, the whole lot of us was waiting for the same train without noticing there's a sign that says that particular train we were waiting for was not running through that road on that day. Again, God sent a lady to inform us that train wasn't going to come for our trip to the Ferry Station, and to our amazement, the lady only spoke to us! And, with the detour to take the metro as a result of it, we were brought to the exact ferry station that we planned to go but which didn't know how to get there, and, on top of that, we could catch the ferry as intended. How wonderfully blessed!

I can't help but marvel at the Lord's watchful eye over us and His great concern of our time and program on those days and beyond. Hallelujah!

Beyond all I could ask or imagine

It was ten years ago, in year 2006 that I left to go Hope Village Prey Veng in Cambodia to serve in an orphanage that housed more than a hundred children and 16 staff.

A particular girl caught my attention on the first day that I landed there. We were playing captain's ball and the girl's charisma and sporty flaire resembled me when I was her age. The zeal, excitement and skilful hands at the game were so much of mine when I was in my teens. She has no parents, only an aunty. Over the two years that I was there, I remember vividly in one of the Khmer New Year, when more than half the children were brought home By their family members to celebrate Khmer New Year, she was waiting patiently for her aunty to come and fetch her. When her aunty arrived, I could see her beaming smile, the overwhelming joy and relief that she was going to go home and celebrate this festive season, even though it was only for half a day.

She has been a good learner and obedient and she has since grown to be a sweet young lady. It was never in my wildest dream that some of the children could come and visit Singapore with all expenses covered by sponsors. It was an official trip where they had to follow the program of attending intensive learning to speak English lessons daily and for her, learning to bake lessons as well and this program lasted for two months. And it so happened I was back in Singapore between my teaching commitment in India, divine bestowment!

She had since started working for about a year and it was a stunningly pleasant surprise she and another girl came to Singapore last April for a week for their Khmer New Year break! It was such deep joy to know both of them are still walking closely with The Lord and she is leading worship in church almost every Sunday.

On top of these, besides visiting Sentosa with them, they came and visited my home after dinner at West Coz cafe. It was never in my wildest imagination that I could have them step into my house! It was terrific time together with them and with two other sisters (co-workers before) chatting and updating one another of God's goodnesses.

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Simply Functioning and Comfort are just Not enough ...

It has been a habit for the longest time I could remember to be happy with things that are functioning, disregarding the colour/ appearance/ comfort level, and let alone the class/ brand/ prestige to consider..

I guess it was because for the longest time I was absorbed in community service work which rendered anything beyond function unnecessary, and, it is also for the reason that economically, I could not 'afford' beyond the functionality of a product, or perhaps, in that environment, it was not important...?

It was after I began to work in my present organisation I was awakened that aesthetics are paramount. The little, little details that were blatantly left out necessitated careful attention and inclusion.

Looking at the pair of footwear swang me back to the demands of appearance, acceptance and alternatives. The footwear is supporting me well and still comfortable but I have established the appearance as unacceptable and an alternative is explicitly, doubtlessly and absolutely imperative and obligatory. I can't help but ask, WWJD (what would Jesus do)? The following verse came immediately to mind:

..for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” 1Sam 16:7b

Exceedingly, acutely and affectionately grateful and privileged to have the Lord as my God and Abba Father. He sets the standards right for me, the inner being, the heart, is the wellspring of life (Pro 4:23)

Love the Lord your God with all your heart...(Matt 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27, etc) Loving God begins with the heart. Serving the Lord your God with all your heart..... (Deut 10:12; Jos 22:5) serving God also begins with the heart. 'The Lord looks at the heart...' I can’t help but ask, what's the condition of my heart? (What's the condition of your heart?)
The first word that came to my mind as I asked myself this question was, 'tired'.

But, I don't understand why is my heart still tired?
I do not have responsibilities in church or in cell, and I'm not serving in any ministry, not doing part-time studies too.... And, my work is comfortably occupied with little stress....i can’t comprehend the condition/ status of my heart.

Adios 2015, What's In for 2016....

It has been a wonderful year. Recognizing God's hand in all the different areas of my life exuberated my knowledge of Him. Knowing Him in deeper intensity in territories untouched before is invigorating and eye-opening. His plans were infallible, unanticipated and out of His love for me, because He knows me well and loves me affectionately. Not sufficient 'thank yous' could show my appreciation, admiration and adoration for Him. What an awesome God!

Two songs that expressed my intense sentiment for year 2015:
Who am I: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mBcqria2wmg
You rescued me: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wXzYYGMdxWk

2016 will be an eventful year, another 52 weeks of advancing my knowledge and sentience of Him.

Love to be deeper in love with Him https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CwEKRZ0I7Gg
Desire to make a difference: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FrPMxtUeONE
Hope to refine myself ; D

Blessed 2016!

God restores

Belated Blessed Christmas! And blessed 2015!!!
It has been more than 46 million seconds since I returned from the missions field. God, please forgive me that it took me so long to 'publicise' your goodness, faithfulness and love to me upon my return. They have been so real to me, more than at my return, especially so when I was in Cambodia and then, India. Lord, you have been so wonderful.

Knowing very well I won't have the energy, emotional, mental and physical to stay in my own house, You provided my aunt's house for me. Not the best at that time, but at least, a place for me to be safe and rest and recuperate. It was tough, Lord, returning and settling in. I have certainly changed and Sgp has also changed and people around me too. Yet, Lord, You did not change, You have always been faithful, loving and providing. Besides the accommodation at my aunt's place, you provided friends whom I could go Seoul with and family whom I could go Guangzhou and Huizhou with. Finally, premature to my plan, You provided a job for me!

Praise You, too, Lord, at the right time You gave me energy to terminate my tenant and retrofit my house and ready me and my friend helpers to move into my house, a house which I could call my own and be able to do things the way I want it and the way I like it. Simultaneously, not to have to feel obligated to do/ not do things, unlike staying at my aunt's house. I could be free like a bird! Thank You, Abba.

I also want to give praise and thanks to You for providing me very kind, helpful and pleasant colleagues to help me in my transition back to my home country through the vocation You provided me in SIT. Thank You, Jesus, Abba Father and Holy Spirit.

An event which marveled me and brought much joy and confidence to me in human beings once again was the Ensure milk powder delivery man. I ordered a dozen tins of milk and the delivery man delivered the tins of powder to my aunt's house without collecting cash or cheque. I didn't have enough cash to pay up and told him I could transfer the money to him later when I get to a cash withdrawal machine. He believed me and left the carton of milk powder and his bank account number with me. I was pleasantly astonished and felt comforted and assured people who trust others are around in this world after all! I have heard too many swindle stories and encountered a few of them personally while living in Delhi. These events were draining to my emotional strength and made me feel very stupid. As a result, it has grown in me a resistance to trust people. God, You bothered to bring about such an event to my life as You knew it mattered to me and it mattered to You that I have difficulty trusting people. Praise You, Lord, You are a wonderful Restorer and sensitive Father. I know I am safe in Your big sweet hands. Thanks, Abba.

As though these were not enough, You led the dean of ACTI to plan and organize a missionary-returnee retreat to further Your work of renewing and restoring me. Thank you, Lord, for helping me to know I am still in the process of transiting back and settling in to my home country. It is not easy, Lord, but I know You are with me and that alone is enough. More than enough to prepare me to be an even better instrument for Your use and glory at your timing. At the retreat and after, I was really relieved and happy to know some people took 2.5 years to be settled in and some took 3 years and are still not settled in. Am hearteningly relaxed to know I am normal. Fantastic!

On this Christmas Day, I want to thank You once again, Jesus, for coming as a humble man to identify with us and to be one of us to bring us to God!!! Thank You and thank You, Lord, and, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Jesus!
